Visual Documentation of Bala Dam Construction

The Balakhanloo Dam project was a complex infrastructure development that demanded high-precision documentation due to its engineering scale and environmental impact. Vaavak was brought on board to deliver a comprehensive visual record of the construction process — tailored for both technical oversight and institutional communication. From initial groundwork to structural completion, our team applied a multi-channel documentation strategy using aerial drone footage, professional DSLR timelapse systems, and structured ground-level photography. The goal was not only to create a clear historical archive but also to support engineers, managers, and stakeholders with real-time visual updates throughout the project lifecycle.

 • DSLR Time-lapse Coverage
Professional DSLR cameras were installed at multiple strategic points across the dam site. These were remotely configured and operated over many months to create detailed timelapse sequences, highlighting key construction phases including excavation, foundation work, concrete pouring, and structural rises.
• Drone Photography & Videography
We conducted routine drone flights from pre-defined GPS coordinates to maintain visual consistency. These aerial captures offered a full overview of terrain transformation, embankment progress, and environmental changes, which were essential for engineering review and stakeholder presentations.
• Progress Photography
Our team conducted on-site DSLR photography to capture critical construction milestones. Each image was categorized by area (e.g., intake, spillway, powerhouse) and phase (e.g., groundwork, structural, mechanical), making it easier for technical teams to track details during and after the build.
• Vaavak Insight Integration
All visual assets were uploaded into a project-specific Vaavak Insight portal, offering secure, role-based access. Engineers used the system to compare site conditions month-to-month, while project managers could generate media-based reports for internal or public communication.

In large-scale infrastructure like dam construction, progress visuals are more than just marketing content — they’re critical tools for decision-making, compliance reporting, and contractor coordination. Our work at Balakhanloo Dam empowered the client with reliable, high-quality visual data that was accessible anytime, from anywhere.
